MTV, Comedy Central & Spike
As a direct vendor to Viacom, we led an embedded team that architected the next-generation shared codebase for its brand apps, and prototyped the first Apple TV apps for MTV and Comedy Central when tvOS launched.
The brief
Viacom ran separate apps for many brands. It wanted one modern codebase that every brand app could share, and it wanted to prove out the new Apple TV from the start.
CS54 worked under its own direct vendor agreement with Viacom. Several of our engineers were embedded in Viacom’s app team, working alongside Viacom staff, and we led the work.
What we built
- Helped build and architect Viacom's next-generation codebase for its Apple apps across brands
- Prototyped tvOS apps for Comedy Central and MTV, reusing as much of the new iOS codebase as possible
- Debugged and fixed crash and memory issues in third-party video playback components used across all of Viacom's iOS apps
- Led the redesign of the Spike TV iOS app
- Set team practices and technology choices: Swift and Objective-C, CocoaPods and Carthage, MVC, MVVM and VIPER
- Prototyped UI and UX concepts, reviewed code, and mentored new team members
